Changing Unwanted Habits Treatments in Aylesbury, Amersham, Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire

Habits can be difficult to replace because, we actually need most of the habits we developed. We go through our days engaging in bad and good habits, activities and routines. If we didn’t, we would have to think about every routine thing we do each day. Unfortunately, the brain really doesn’t distinguish between the good habits and the bad ones. Once a habit is categorised into the “automatic” group, it’s hard to change it.

Step one is to identify the underlying cause of a habit. Both good and bad habits have a purpose. Overeating can be a way to comfort yourself when you’re feeling stressed or down. Smoking may be a way to relax. If you want to break the habit, you have to find out what function the bad habit is serving.

Step two is to learn to deal with the real problem. You are very unlikely going to stop a bad habit, unless you develop another method to deal with its purpose. A positive behaviour has to be put in its place, that doesn’t have the negative consequence of the bad habit.
